AVSAR is a charitable, scientific, and educational organization whose purpose is the coordinating and conducting of search and rescue activities for the county of Alamosa, Colorado. AVSAR is overseen by the Alamosa County Sheriff's Office.
The official mission statement of AVSAR is, "A volunteer non-profit public service organization dedicated to providing search and rescue services and education so that others may live."
AVSAR trainings and missions primarily occur in the Blanca Massif Mountain Group, Sand Dunes National Park, and the area surrounding Zapata Falls; however, AVSAR also assists regional counties in joint SAR missions. AVSAR meetings occur at 1800 (6pm) every fourth Tuesday of the month (with some exceptions, check the calendar) at the Alamosa County Sheriff's Office building just south of Alamosa on Hwy 285.
